The Good News & The Bad News
Like all other matters in life, there is always the Positive, and the Negative. The X and the O, the Yin and the Yang. The good news, and the bad. I always want to think of myself as one of those who sees the glass as half-full. If there is any feeling of anger or disappointment, it usually dissipates after a good night’s sleep.
So it is with this Waiting Game for our visas to Paris. It is finally “Game Over.” On Day 35. All good things do come to those who wait. We can now look forward to rejoining DH after almost 3 weeks! More importantly, we can finally, truly, absolutely “turn the page of our book and start the next chapter in our life” — to borrow a phrase from a good friend of mine.
That’s the good news.
And the bad news? We didn’t get the apartment we thought we had secured. Some days ago, DH called me, sounding really excited, about a 1914 building he found. We were to be on the top floor (the 6th floor!), in a 220 sq ft flat with 5 bedrooms and 3 toilets and baths! A rare find in the 16th arrondissement, which only yielded 3 available flats in 10 house-hunting days. As it turned out, the agent made a mistake with the final price: parking fees were not yet included, blah, blah, blah. In short, back to Square One.
Sad Me. I had pictured the whole apartment in my head already: a splendid view of the city, a private road where my son could ride his bicycle safely, a 5-minute walk to school for my DD, lots of storage space, high ceilings… I was already there! Alack. This time, I really felt the glass was just so very empty.
I know. It probably was not meant to be. Probably had bloody ghosts in there. Probably. Now, I just have to shake myself and trust that the Hubby will find something equally alluring, if not better. I just have to stop being a brat (as I have oftentimes been accused of). Someone, just let me go get that good night’s sleep… because tomorrow will be another day.
At least we finally, finally got our visas… and that’s probably all that really matters for now. 🙂
